Dr. Shreya Ramayya

Founder of Together We Well

Dr. Ramayya, founder of Together We Well, is a medical resident in Los Angeles. She created this organization to help make topics in health and wellness more accessible. Driven by her experiences in the medical field, she has witnessed firsthand the challenges of navigating the healthcare system. Through her Instagram @raisinsandporcupines, she aims to improve societal wellness by introducing healthcare resources, advocating for female founders, and engaging in community activities. Dr. Ramayya has created a space where people can openly discuss healthcare and life. She explains how she uses social media to help people feel more interconnected and find others with similar struggles.

In her work, Dr. Ramayya has observed disparities in healthcare access, with patients in affluent neighborhoods having more resources than those in low-income communities. She is dedicated to bridging this gap by connecting patients to healthcare services and making them more accessible.

Dr. Ramayya was inspired to pursue a career in medicine and follow in the footsteps of  her mother, who is also a doctor. Seeing her mother’s perspective on caring for patients holistically has influenced her practice style. Additionally, her experiences in India, further fueled her passion for healthcare advocacy to improve education and access to medical knowledge and resources. When traveling to India, she saw a key distinction between the “haves and have nots.” Dr. Ramayya hopes to change people's perceptions of healthcare and address the systemic barriers that perpetuate inequality in the healthcare system.

Dr. Ramayya also recognizes the challenges faced by South Asian women in healthcare, where biases often lead to mistaken identities and a lack of appreciation. She advocates for women to make their voices heard and challenge traditional gender roles. Her advice to young South Asian girls interested in healthcare advocacy is to explore different avenues, build a supportive community, and trust themselves. She believes that it's never too late to pursue your passions and build a supportive network.
